I have no idea what happened.

Something happened with our old class blog that rendered it...um...deleted. Now, we have this one.

Don't worry, all you folks who posted comments recently. I checked them just last night. So...If you posted something genius today...I am sorry. There was a flash of light, a funny sound and a stuck key on the keyboard. Thankfully, I was not using my personal computer, so I don't have to take my PC to the doctor's office. Unfortunately for my friend, she does need to take in her desktop.

To start the new version, I'm sending you to Google - or whatever search engine you choose to use. In the search bar, type in "toys." The first few that pull up should be Toys R Us, KB Toys, Genius Babies and Fisher-Price. Review these sites (or any others that pop up on your search) and share with us what you think of them...and, more specifically, what you find they have in common.

I tend to use Yahoo. I searched "toys" and the first one up was Stuffington.com -- which I'd never heard of before. It says it is selling "quality stuffed friends" since 1959. So they apparently are not selling toys--just friends.

Next up was Kindermark, yet another one I had not heard of. They say their mission is to "advance the business and professional goals of our customers while promoting the well being of children and families." Quite a mouthful for what appears to be a company that simply sells educational toys and children's furniture.

Next we get Toys R Us--one I have not only heard of, but probably should have a small wing named after me give my 13 years of buying crap for my son there... They are more straightforward than the prior two. No mission statement or profound societal purpose. They just have tons of stuff for sale. A lot of "buy 1 get 1 free" and "buy 2 get 3rd free" and other ridiculous come-ons.

The fourth one revealed through nmy Yahoo search was K-B Toys. On their site was "Go Out and Play: Spring Into Action With Cool Outdoor Toys." So I guess K-B is looking out for our well-being and wanting us to go outside and get exercise this spring. Quite noble.

The first three had big banner ads for President's Day Sale and big savings. All four were quite busy sites -- meaning colorful, gaudy at times, a billion ads for particular items or particular brands, and pictures of extremely happy kids.

I used Google and the first hit I got was eToys.com where tehy claim "Childhood Dreams Delivered." Fair enough, they seem to have something for ages 0-17 and beyond. One thing I noticed is you can search for items by age group.

I skipped the links to Toys R Us and KBs, and noticed a link to the consumer product and safety commision website for toy recalls dating as far back as 1975.

Susan Tyner says:

After using the Google search I
noticed how many of the results had the words "must-have toys" and "educational toys". I did investigate the classic toys site because I wanted to know what year Mr. Potato Head came out. Mr. Tyner claims that the original version provided only the plastic accessories (feet, hands, eyes, pipe, etc)but the plastic potato body was yet to be invented. You had to use a real potato and poke the plastic parts into it. I am unable to verify the truth of his claim but it makes a good story.

The movie "The Toy" also came up.

The Mr.(Tyner, not Potato Head) and I gave up long ago trying to buy suitable toys for the grandchildren opting instead to send money. The toy scene is just incomprehensible unless you've plugged yourself in to the mainstream kid culture or have recently been a child yourself.

Susan, your husband is correct. Look at http://www.nebrwesleyan.edu/depts/education/mcdonald/itq/jvanwinkle/TMPgzpuk1tryf.htm

The original was pieces only and you had to use a potato!

When I searched on Google and the websites popped up the first one I got was eToys. There were other websites and I checked all of them. Most of them have the same information but different colors and they tell you to buy different things. I compared all of the websites and they tell you all of the ages and departments. They also give you the brands and which character you would like so you wouldn’t have to search everywhere.
