This site is very heavy on the activism theme. I clicked on the "About Us" tab in order to learn more. Apparently, they wish to supplant the evil corporateers who now dominate the marketplace. How Adbusters is going to distinguish themselves as being "kinder and gentler" than the current crop of clowns escaped me. They use all the PC buzzwords, though, so that probably counts for something.

Permit me to veer off onto a tangent. Those of us who are fans of the LOTR trilogy will be remember that the ring (which was coveted by nearly everyone)was truly evil and that no one could wield it without becoming corrupted, no matter if their intentions were for good or for evil. This analogy fits our modern corporate/marketing model quite well, in my opinion.

Post-tangent thought: I would love to have the TV zapper as advertised in their "Culture Shop"! As if the waiting room experience at doctor's offices and surgical center weren't dehumanizing enough, some dim bulb decided to intensify the torture by installing televisions way up high and then hiding the remote.

I thought this site was very interesting. Know onw really believes they are getting tricked into thinking a certain way or buying a particular brand name item because of ada, but in reality they really are. They definitely bash on ads but I thinks it's good to point out the obvious. That being buying something not because of the quality but because it's popular and so forth.

Kudos to Susan for the Lord of the Rings tie-in.

My first stop was the culture shop- hey everybody's trying to sell me something, even the anti-corporate activists. I must admit that the spoof ads are pretty clever, funny and poignant.
I'm curious about what exactly they mean when they state their "aim is to topple existing power structures and forge a major shift in the way we will live in the 21st century."
Who is the "we" they are refering to? Do they want everyone else to live a certain way?

Yes, everywhere you go there is always some kind of advertising trying to sell you something or other. I exactly don't really know what it means but this I do know is that its advertising things that everybody wants. This is what americans is all about is advertising. Selling you something that you don't really need. Rosie
