Not Quite Perfect

Once again, I give you an article from The Onion - the satire newspaper. Before you read this, please go into it knowing that it is NOT SERIOUS. This is meant to be funny. It's like watching Saturday Night Live, only in an on-line, readable format. That said, please don't make comments about whether or not you would take your children to this McDonald's because it doesn't exist. Instead, please focus your response on WHY The Onion would select this as something to poke fun at. Think of this in relation to, perhaps, the Starbucks article left for you earlier on this page. What do the ideas presented in this article suggest about how we as Americans view labels?

That is a funny article. I like the picture of green fries. And the comment about Hamburgler having no teeth. I would go check out the restraunt if there was one. I may not eat anything but I think it would be funny.

I had a happy meal once, but it did not make me happy. Is this the same thing? Meanwhile, back in the real world, someone actually weighed a Quarter Pounder and discovered it didn't weigh 1/4 pound! McD's now has a disclaimer.

I think McDonald’s was an easy choice to poke fun at since everyone in America recognizes the golden arches as cheap and fast food. If we are hungry and low on cash, we automatically think the McDonald’s dollar menu because we want something now and don’t want to spend a fortune. I thought it was funny how the article basically explains that even though the food is horrible, half a bun on your hamburger, or the plastic “balls” in the ball pit are actually triangular, it’s okay because it’s cheap.

I think they chose to make fun at Mickey D's because it's easy. They're everywhere are always coming up with something new...like the parallelogram-shaped hash browns. Ha-ha, THAT'S really only a matter of time.

I believe in the future that this could actually happen in some way. McDonalds is greedy enough as it is, and it's probably not cheap to order new fries and meat all time.

Plus the sheeple that constitute the world population would be only too willing to buy that crap. Just my .02 cents.

This was amusing. I would be tickled to see a "factory seconds" McDonald's franchise in the Boise Outlet Mall! It would be hilarious to see the slightly irregular happy meal prizes, overstock french fries and last season's hamburger patties recycled as McRiblets. What better entity to poke fun at than the corporate "Death Star" McDonalds?

As for how this article relates to the previous one about Starbuck's, it seems to me that some of the American public may have a love/hate relationship with popular brands. It's as if they are saying to themselves, "Yes, I want a cup of Starbuck's coffee (or a Big Mac)but the company is annoying me in the way the products are being marketed.Yet still, I want; therefore I buy!"

The McDonalds article reminds me of the outlet mall. We go there to purchase names brands at a cheap price. What if we could purchase no-name brands (as if any really exist)at even cheaper prices would we do it? Probably not b/c at Gen-X they sell $10 jeans but the quality is poor and my size in those jeans are 4x larger then that in a brand name jean.
I think that's what the two articles have in common. Starbucks and McDonalds are fortune 100 companies b/c they are convenient and are well known names associated with quality and affluence.
In the Starbucks article its mentioned that McDonalds coffee is said to be better then Startbucks. I don't agree- b/c McDonalds doesn't serve my Caramel Frappuccino. The 100s of combos offered by Starbucks is pointless b/c I would never try more than 5 of them. And I would never go to a McDonalds outlet- not even out of curiousity. If you're that poor to buy a .30 misshapen mystery cheeseburger you should just eat at home.

haha, Mcdonalds is probably the best fast food restaurant to make fun of, because of how nasty it is!!! Reading this article makes me wonder if people only eat there because of its advertising statements "We Love to See You Smile", seriously the food isn't that good, why are people so drawn to it?

My comment is for Keri... I think people are drawn to it because it's fast, easy, and cheap. People are too lazy in America (in my opinion) to fix dinner anymore for their children so they take them out to eat fastfood. Once the parents do that, they can't stop because their kids crave the sugar and fats from the hamburger and will cry if they don't get their way... so the parents are somewhat forced to take their kids out to fastfood because they won't just spank them and send them off to bed without dinner!

We view labels by its cover. If the cover doesn't draw our attention we don't want anything to do with it. I think this article made alot of sense. Just imagine that we would really had a mcdonalds like that one. I think the article was very funny. I hadn't seen or read an article like that before. Yes I can see where you thought that it was like saturday night live. Very eye catching. Like that hamburger that only had half a bun. Funny,ha,ha. Rosie
